On 2nd June, 1916, the day when George Wheeler was killed, 11th Royal West Kent of 122 Brigade, 41st Division, were manning the front line trenches in Ploegsteert Wood in Belgium, close to the French border. There is no information in the Battalion Diary as to the circumstances of his death but the likelihood is that it was as a result of shell fire. |
